Privacy

Your data stays on your phone

The Android app has no Internet permission: it cannot connect to any server. Your data only leaves your phone if you share a backup or a CSV file yourself, or if Android backup is turned on.

  • No Internet permissionWorks the same in airplane mode: everything is stored on the phone.

  • No accountsNo sign-up, no email, no password.

  • No ads, no analyticsThe app does not track what you do.

  • Fingerprint or PIN lockTurn it on in Settings and no one else can open Cashflow, even if you lend them your phone. In recent apps, its content stays hidden.

PermissionsNo permissions requested

This is how stock Android 16 shows it; menu names vary by Android version and phone maker.

Know your way around APKs? aapt2 dump permissions does not list android.permission.INTERNET. You will see USE_BIOMETRIC and USE_FINGERPRINT: they power the fingerprint lock, Android grants them without asking, and they give no network access.

An honest note: if Android backup is turned on, the system saves your apps’ data to your Google account, Cashflow’s included. That is what lets you get it back on a new phone, and you can turn it off in Android settings.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes, and ad-free. The free plan includes one personal profile, one business profile, reports and CSV export. An optional premium plan will come later.

How do I install an APK?
  1. Tap Download APK and wait for it to finish.
  2. Open the file from the notification or from Downloads.
  3. If Android asks, allow Install unknown apps for your browser.
  4. Tap Install.

Android asks because the app does not come from Google Play. Once you are done, you can turn that permission off again.

I already have the app. How do I update it?

Download the new version from this page and install it over the one you have, without uninstalling it. Android keeps your profiles, categories and transactions because both versions are signed with the same key.

Uninstalling Cashflow deletes its data from the phone. If you ever need to, export a backup from Settings first.

What’s new in version 1.2.0?
  • The fee lives inside its income. When you record an income with a fee, Home shows a single transaction with the fee in small print under the amount. In Reports, filtering by Expenses still lists the fee on its own, and it counts in your totals as always. Fees saved with earlier versions join their income automatically when there is no doubt; otherwise they stay as they were.
  • All profiles in one view. In the profile picker, choose “All profiles” to see your personal and business money together on Home and in Reports.
  • New Tools tab, with External accounts. Enter the balance of your bank, card, savings or loans by hand (with a name and a category) and see the total in one place. It does not connect to your bank.
  • Swipe to change tabs. Slide your finger sideways to move between Home, Reports, Tools and Settings.
  • “Hide amounts” now covers Reports and each transaction’s detail, which now shows the description and the fee together.
  • Your data stays. Install it over the one you have, without uninstalling: all your transactions are still there.
What did version 1.1.0 bring?
  • Fingerprint, face or PIN lock. If you turn it on in Settings, Cashflow asks for it when it opens and when you return after more than 30 seconds away.
  • More privacy in recent apps. When you switch apps, Cashflow’s content stays hidden.
  • Refreshed design. More compact screens with a native Android look.
  • Date fix. When you picked a transaction’s date from the calendar, version 1.0.0 could save it one day early. If you used that option, check the dates of those transactions.
How do I know the APK is genuine?

Compare its SHA-256 fingerprint with the one we publish next to the download button. On a computer, for example: sha256sum cashflow-1.2.0.apk. If both strings match character for character, the file arrived intact.

To check who signed it: apksigner verify --print-certs cashflow-1.2.0.apk must show, as the certificate’s SHA-256 digest, the one we publish next to the download (apksigner prints it in lowercase without colons: 091e7f13ec3a320d36da00805624584929b224a25b8779c6e1fed6a6414aceeb). Every future version will be signed with that same key.

What about iPhone?

There is no iPhone version yet. If you already use Cashflow on the web, the web version keeps working as always.

What if I switch phones?

In Settings, export a backup and keep it wherever you like. On the new phone, install Cashflow and import that backup: your profiles, categories and transactions come back as they were. Importing replaces whatever was on that phone, and the app asks you first.

Will it be on Google Play?

Yes, it is on its way. In the meantime, you can install it from here.
